General questions

How do I find out if I am a candidate for surgery at Laser Spine Institute?
We determine if you may be a candidate for our procedures by offering all of our patients an initial review of their MRI or CT scan. This will allow our doctors and surgeons to determine whether you have the conditions we are able to treat effectively with one of our minimally invasive procedures.

How long will I stay at Laser Spine Institute’s location?
The general patient experience is different for everyone, but it is designed to be performed on a streamlined outpatient basis. Speak with our caring team regarding your individual treatment plan and experience.

Will I need to stay in the hospital or at Laser Spine Institute’s facility overnight?
Our procedures are performed in our outpatient ambulatory surgery centers. After your surgery you will spend 60 to 90 minutes in our postoperative area before heading home or to your hotel,^ accompanied by your Care Partner.

How long will I need to be out of work after surgery?
As each patient is different, each recovery process is different. Depending on your type of work, most patients can return to light duty just a few weeks after surgery. Nearly 81 percent of our patients receiving minimally invasive decompression surgery are back to work after 12 weeks.

Do I have to have someone with me for my surgery?
Yes, we require all patients to be accompanied by a qualified individual over the age of 18 for the 24 hours immediately following surgery.

Can I choose my surgeon?
We are open to any recommendations you may have, but we cannot guarantee your requested surgeon will be the surgeon performing your procedure. All surgeons are assigned based on specialization, time commitments and facility location.

Medical questions

Why is minimally invasive surgery at Laser Spine Institute an alternative to traditional surgery?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with both minimally invasive procedures and traditional procedures. What are the risks of minimally invasive surgery?

Can Laser Spine Institute help me if I have had a failed surgery before?

Insurance questions

Will insurance cover my procedure at Laser Spine Institute?
We work with most insurance companies, but to determine your specific coverage, ask your Patient Empowerment Consultant. Because each insurance plan reimburses differently, we base our costs on historical reimbursement in order to offer you the best service in a convenient manner.

Does Laser Spine Institute take Medicare?
We work with Medicare patients to ensure they are given the best care possible. Our current contract with Medicare covers our doctors’ and surgeons’ fees. However, the facility fee is generally not covered, leaving the patient with an out-of-pocket cost. Talk to a member of our team for more information regarding your specific situation.
